What is Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu-Jitsu, which means "gentle art," is the oldest form of martial art. It originated in India around 2000 B.C. It was created by monks who could not use any type of weapons to defend their lives against barbarian attacks.  It then spread through China, and eventually took hold in Japan, who made it their first martial art. It was actually adopted by many samurai clans to help defend themselves. The techniques and styles split in the years that followed, resulting in the creation of judo, akido, karate, etc.
